One of the curious things about Christianity is just how close we believe God is to His creation. Christians are theists, which means:
- We believe God exists.
- We believe God participates in the universe He created.
This means that Christians believe in a God who cares about our prayers, desires a relationship with us, and can be known personally. We believe in a God that is infinitely beyond our imagination and reason but is also… simple.
It’s a curious belief since you don’t see God sitting in your room or taking a walk. But it does stand out.
Consider how the Christian God is incomprehensible (example: the Holy Trinity) and yet allows us to communicate with Him in English (or Polish, or Spanish, or German). Consider also how we believe Jesus (the second Person of the Trinity; God) became fully human and fully God at the same time when He came to the earth.
He did not merely appear to be a human. He experienced being a human. Therefore, Jesus experienced hunger, thirst, embarrassment, anguish, disgust, grief, and other human emotions, including unpleasant ones.
Yes, Jesus experienced fear as His death grew closer. Yes, Christians believe Jesus experienced the full pain of crucifixion.
Why? We believe He did this out of love.
